the obama administraon. the food stamp participation rate has risen by more than million people. every single month of this year additional members, folks moving on to the roles of food stamps. it has become more expensive to run as well. in 2000 the food stamp program cost just under $1000 per person. today the number has soared to $1,700 a person, 68 percent increase, double the rate of flation. poverty rates continued arise. housing and urbaban development estimating there were 250-350000 people homeless on a typical night backat the end of 1983. this compares with an estimated 636,000 homeless at the end of last year going into the fourth year of the president's presidency. just think of all this expansion, all of the spending, the federal government over the course of almost three decades. it's what president ronald reagan promised to take on and rivers more than three decades ago. >> we are a nation that has the government cannot the other way around. and this makes as special among the nations of europe. our government has no power, expt that granted it by the people. it is time

the fiscal cliff, which is the christmas present the country needs. today we heard president obama's response to the proposal that house speaker john boehner put on the table yesterday. >> the speaker's proposal right now is still out of balance. >> of out of balance. kind of similar to what republicans said last week when the president sent over his terms. so now what? will they sit down and talk it through? well, not according to at least one senior republican aide who told cnn today, no conversations today, no e-mails, tweets, carrier pigeons. as for boehner and obama, they actually did see each other in person at the white house holiday party last night in black tie. while other lawmakers waited in line to get the photo with the president, multiple sources from both sides of the aisle tell cnn that boehner wasn't among them. so much for holiday cheer. we have this picture. we're waiting for the day there's a fiscal cliff. there wasn't total silence in washington today. senate majority leader harry reid spoke up. but in his case, in the form of a swipe. >> i sympathize with john boehner. t

through economic growth, if you grew at 4% a year, reagan levels, instead of 2%, french levels or obama levels, you would net $5 trillion in additional revenue to the government, you could pay down all of obama's additional debt by higher levels of growth, not raising taxes. so there's a lot of money to be gotten from growth. how they do this, we have to see it written down, but because the obama administration and spokesmen have been so emphatic about all taxes and no spending restraint, all taxes and actually spend -- another stimulus, another solyndra stimulus program -- >> i don't think they've mentioned solyndra, grover, but i'm sure they appreciate your mentioning of it. >> they didn't? the whole idea of additional spending rather than spending restrictions -- they could save money by not continuing world war ii as well. so the obama administration is so far out there, that what the republicans are doing is pointing out how reasonable they are, taking bowles' idea, i see he's playing democrat partisan today -- >> part of that is actually putting revenue on the table which speaker
